There is no doubt in my mind that ignorance and unawareness can drain your life, business, and prosperity into the molten core which exists past rock bottom. We see the manifestation of this lack of awareness in individuals which die with nothing to leave their children, or even worse, passing debt to their kin. The point of this little rant is just to express the value of knowing whether you are accumulating wealth (bucket filling up) or losing wealth (bucket with too many leaks) – and if you know where your bucket stands, that is the first step to getting it to where you want it to be.

Generally, systems composed of many similar objects are described by a statistical model. For example, in chemical reaction modeling, reaction rate is governed by the frequency at which molecules collide multiplied by the probability that the collision will result in loss of chemical identity ( conversion of reactant to product). In internet marketing, conversion rate ( turning surfers to customers ) is related to the frequency at which a surfer collides with your webpage or direct affiliate offer (aka the traffic you drive) multiplied by the probability that a surfer convert to a paying customer.
The big Mistake
One huge mistake that beginning webmasters and affiliate marketers make is failing to understand traffic resistivity. Traffic resistivity ( coined by Miles Smith himself ) measures how many actions a surfer must take in order to convert. Lets say you promoting an information product about world of warcraft (hot niche) and the surfer in order to convert and make you money must enter his/her email address and their telephone number to recieve access to the information product. Now provided you can send this offer to people interested in WOW world of warcraft, you might make some money. A surfer must make 2 actions in order to make you money ( 1. fill out his/her email 2. fill out his/her phone ) traffic resistivity = 2 forms.
Now, what would happen to your earnings if a surfer only had to fill in email in order to gain access to the product, and generate a conversion for you? You would make a lot more money! Simply because, with the same amount of traffic, a lower traffic resistance (only 1 form to submit in this situation -> traffic resistance = 1 form) creates more conversions. It seems trivial, but honestly cutting a sign up prcoess by 1 or 2 forms will literally increase sign up conversion by 20% easy.
The bottom line…

Internet Marketing Newbies
Hello there internet marketing newbies. I have come to realize that perhaps this blog’s content only remotely makes sense to partially-seasoned internet maketers and web masters. That being said, this post is to get you newbies up to speed.
I started internet marketing, or back then what I called ‘makin websites’, about two years ago. When I created my first website, emeraldbeats.com (no longer exists) , a site to sell instrumental beats, I thought I was going to wake up the next day a millionaire. I spent hours and hours on graphics, layout, theme, etc, only later to realize no one was coming to my website, not now, not soon, not ever, and no matter how pretty I made the site, that wasn’t going to change. And I learned my first very important lesson: People do not automatically come to webpages. Now, as trivial as that sounds, many people simply do not understand this. You could reinvent facebook, or something 20x better than facebook, but no one will visit the site without proper link building and promotion. Period.
Okay, so…I had spent over 500 hours coding nonsense javascript to make my site “interactive” and pretty, sacrificed my sophmore grades in chemical engineering, only to find that it all was worth nothing. I started surfing some highly profitable adult niche sites, and found that many of these sites simply looked like donkey crap. I mean, some sites making over a grand a day simply look like some 6 year old’s artwork – no offense to 6 year olds.
So… A site that looks like crap, no javascript, no css, no theme, just black text, blue links, and some pictures makes over a grand a day ( by the way you can check website value with http://www.websiteoutlook.com however, this is extreemly inaccurate, use tools like alexa.com compete.com and quantcast.com to gauge a websites traffic – from there it is actually very hard to determine how much they are making) so….WTF, I thought to myself. There must be some other special ingredient to being successfull at making money online! And , there is, it is called traffic!
Okay, so I realize that traffic is the only thing that matters ( pretty much, for our newie internet marketing purposes ) – so how did I get traffic in my early days? Well, do a google search using (“links:http://www.compeditorwebsite.com”) and find who was linking to my competition, then I would try to build a link to my site! Now, while I did do this for like 2 weeks straight, staying up until the wee hours of the morning every night, it was close to unbearably boring and tedious. However, after 2 weeks of link building for about 4 hours a day, a reached a steady traffic flow of about 1000 unique visitors a day. Needless to say, sales started to role in, and the work didn’t seem so bad.
Then, I began to ponder how I could automate my work, to achieve a similar result in less time. That brought me to purchasing a variety of automatic link building softwares – some which work very well, some which do not. ( I will go over which software is best in future post – stay tuned) For the most part, automatic link building software is usefull, but only to a point, and only if you know how to use it correctly. Now, sales were rolling in, and I was loving it, but of course, like any greedy webmaster, I wanted more!
Okay, but I have gone on a tanget. That is my story, hopefully you can learn something from it. But here is my advise to you young internet marketing padawan learner -
1) Start with only one website (Choose to make content about something that interests you – perhaps yoga or fly fishing)
2) Build links to your website using dofollow diver – google search “do follow diver”, the rest is pretty straight forward – leave comments that include a hyperlink to your site on relevent blog posts
3) Find affiliate programs that are relevant to your site – clickbank, clickbooth, etc
4) Install google analytics on your site – not that hard, just do it
After that, just monitor traffic and see if you can make some sales for a targeted product on your page. Making ten dollars a day online is not hard – let me repeat – making ten dollars a day online is not hard – making 100 dollars a day online is not THAT hard, and if you work hard enough 1000 dollars per day from internet marketing is not out of reach for anyone. SEO Outbound Links
In internet marketing, webmasters are constantly looking for an edge against the competition. Who doesn’t want a high google ranking, and all the cash associated with one. I have observed in some cases pages with less than 6 outbound links ( even if those are internal links ) rank higher for the title, and text compared to sites with internal linking structures that include more than 6 links per static page. This is only one of the bizarre observations that still stun me today about google rankings.
Google, uses a computer algorithm to crawl (search) content and assign the relevance of the content. That being said, no one except google knows the exact algorithm that ranks web pages in the search results, and therefore we can only speculate to a degree why certain pages appear where they do on the SERPS.
It is my personal recommendation that for dynamic social networking sites, use unique meta tags for each page. Google doesn’t like to see ever ypage in a large site having the same meta data! UNLESS (not sure why I’m giving this secret away, haha) you want to rank high for a single set of search words in a uniform title tag.
Also, try using a maximum of 6 total outbound links per page, and make then all internal links in context, meaning the hyperlinks appear as anchor text, IN THE MIDDLE a paragraph that is relevant to the anchor text

Blogging – what a truly amazing thing. Anyone who can write and has access to an iphone or computer can create a blog, and subsequently generate passive income. Some of the wealthiest people in the world generate passive income from blogs. Furthermore, since you can write about what ever you want, blogging can be a lot more enjoyable than pushing random affiliate products online.
1) Blogging Basics – Anyone can create a blog for free at blogger.com – this is a great option for people who do not want to risk anything. Inserting affiliate links into relevant posts is generally considered a good way to monetize (big word for ‘make money’) on your blog – so for example if you write a blog post about how to get white teeth, then somewhere in the post, include a hyperlink to a free trial of a tooth whitening pen ( again, sign up for an account with markethealth.com to promote health products and earn commision ).
3) Getting traffic to your blog – even if you have a wonderful blog, bursting with mouth watering content, and are promoting the hottest most relevant affiliate offers possible, you will not make money without traffic. So how do you get traffic to your blog? I good way to make a solid foundation is to post comments on other blogs, when you leave comments, be sure to mention your blogs web address, or even better create a hyper link (for example http://www.yoursite.com ) to your blog. Create a facebook group for your blog and invite friends to join. And finally, find relevant forums to post on and build links to your blog. 1) Keyword Research – What are people searching for? Research keywords with the free “google keyword tool” ( google it ). Find a target search phrase. You can either try to target a high volume, high competition search phrase or perhaps a less competitive low volume keywords. Remember, getting your website to rank for high volume search queries on google requires an advanced understanding of internal and external link building, while smaller and less competitive ”long tail” keywords are quite easy to rank for.
2) Domain Name Selection – I am a fan of including an exact keyword match in domain names. Some will argue that random short domain names, such as “digg” and “tumblr” are more memorable and spread by word of mouth quicker. However, having an exact keyword match in your domain basically guarantees you a better chance at ranking high for the keyword phrase contained.
3) Social Book Marking – Whenever I launch a site I do a batch of social bookmarking on all the popular social media sites. Usually it’s a real pain in the ass, and highly time consuming. I use Bookmarking Demon for automatic bookmarking. However, without a captcha breaker its still hard work!
4) Blog Comments – Focus on blogs with few outbound links, so that a link to your website passes more link juice. I use blog comment demon to search for blogs that are relevant and have under 10 outbound links.
5) Facebook Marketing – Create a Facebook page for your site, try to invite people to join, every new member counts as a link in google’s eyes.
6) Create a Youtube Channel – Create a relevant video, with keywords in the tags and title, link to this video somewhere on your own site. Embedding videos on your own site also works great.
7) Install Google Analytics – (google search this) Sign up for an account and just copy paste the code to your website. Google analytics will track key data about the web surfers on your website. Greate internet marketing is done by measuring everything. The more you can measure, the more you know!
8 ) Promote Free Trials – Free trials will make you more money, faster! It is much easier to make a sale, or conversion, with a product that is free, or close to free, than to sell a full priced product. 12) Stream line your website – Eliminate extra forms and widgets that don’t increase conversions of visitors to buyers.
13) Submit your site to Yahoo Directory – This will help with page rank quite a bit, and of course your visibility on yahoo.
14) Keep page load time down – Often times, webmasters don’t even know that the page load is literally killing off their traffic. A good rule of thumb is that your site should load in under 2 seconds at all times.
